X removes 42,000 reply-bot accounts
July 25, 2026: the biggest single purge of automated repliers so far, and a count for the year.
What happened. X removed 42,000 accounts for posting automated replies, and said it had taken down 1.7 million bot accounts since January, StartupFortune reported. The accounts were replying "without a human in the loop".
Why you care. If you reply by hand, this is good news twice. There are fewer bots above you in the thread, and readers who had learned to skip replies have a reason to read them again.
What to do with it. Make it obvious you're a person. A detail from your own work does it. "Great insight" does not.
