Reading X now costs half a cent a post
June 1, 2026: the older flat-rate API plans start moving to pay-per-use, and every tool that reads X gets a meter.
What happened. X introduced pay-per-use API pricing in February. From June, the older flat-rate Basic plans started moving onto it as well, according to an announcement on X's developer forum. The official price list charges $0.005 for each post read and $0.015 for each post created.
Why you care. Half a cent sounds like nothing until a tool reads a few thousand posts a day on your behalf. Expect X tools to raise prices, go vague about limits or drop X altogether.
What to do with it. Be suspicious of "unlimited". A tool that's honest about what it reads for you, and how often, is one that has done the maths.
