X's reply filter hides 34 of 59 replies under one post

September 3, 2026: a look at one thread shows how hard the low-quality filter now bites, and who it catches by mistake.

What happened. Techweez reported that under a single post by investor Paul Graham, 34 of 59 replies were hidden by X's filter for low-quality replies. X's former head of product said about 95% of what the filter hides are bots. X does not publish how often it gets a real person wrong, and the report describes people with polished, generic prose being caught too.

Why you care. The filter can't see your intentions. It sees text. If your reply could have been written by anyone about anything, it looks like it was written by no one.

What to do with it. Be specific and a little rough. A number, a name, something that happened on Tuesday. We keep a field guide to replies that pass this test.
