Follows, likes and quote posts leave X's self-serve API
April 16, 2026: X takes the last of the auto-engagement actions out of the affordable API tiers.
What happened. X's developer account announced that following, likes and quote posts through the API would be removed from all self-serve tiers. The same announcement raised the price of creating a post from $0.01 to $0.015, and set $0.20 for a post that contains a link.
Why you care. "Auto-like the accounts you want to notice you" and "auto-follow your niche" were the growth-tool playbook for a decade. On the tiers small tools can afford, those actions no longer exist.
What to do with it. If a tool you pay for quietly loses features this month, this is why. What's left for a small account is the unglamorous part: being worth following when someone lands on your reply.
